SWIM LESSONS

Our American Red Cross swim classes are designed to support participants of all ages and skill levels, helping each individual progress at a comfortable pace. Whether you're a child, teen, or adult, our instructors provide guidance to ensure everyone receives the support they need.

  • Preschool Aquatics Overview

    Preschool Level 1: Water Exploration
    For ages 4–5 with no prior experience. Kids learn basic water safety and skills like entering/exiting the pool, blowing bubbles, submerging face, floating, gliding, and basic arm/leg movements.

    Preschool Level 2: Fundamental Skills
    For children who’ve completed Level 1. Focuses on bobbing, floating, gliding, treading, and combining arm/leg actions. Safety skills and life jacket use are reinforced.

    Preschool Level 3: Skill Development
    For those who’ve passed Level 2. Builds endurance and coordination with skills like jumping in, breath control, advanced floats, changing direction, and longer swim distances.

  • Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills
    Ages 6+. Learn basic water safety, breath control, floating, gliding, and arm/leg movements. No prerequisites.

    Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills
    Builds on Level 1 with breath-holding, bobbing, floats, glides, and basic strokes. Introduces safety assists and emergency awareness.

    Level 3: Stroke Development
    Practice skills in deeper water. Learn rotary breathing, survival float, basic strokes, and water entry techniques.

    Level 4: Stroke Improvement
    Refines strokes and introduces underwater swimming, surface dives, and advanced kicks. Focus on stroke technique and water safety.

    Level 5: Stroke Refinement
    Enhances coordination and efficiency in all strokes. Includes flip turns, surface dives, sculling, and water-park safety.

    Level 6: Fitness Swimmer
    Focuses on endurance, stroke refinement, and swim fitness. Covers swim equipment, training techniques, and water exercise principles.

     

  • One-on-one lessons are ideal for the person who has very specific expectations from their lessons and desires individual attention and engagement. Participants get one-on-one time with their instructor! 

Starting Fall 2025, all registrations for minors enrolling in Group or Private Lessons will be managed exclusively through Ideal-Logic. No other registration methods will be accepted. Please review all provided information carefully, and reach out to recaquatics@txstate.edu with any questions. 

Adult Swim Lessons

Level 1: Fundamentals of Swimming

Perfect for adults new to swimming. Learn basic water skills, build comfort in and around the water, and gain essential water safety knowledge.

Level 2: Stroke Development

Designed for adults who can swim and want to improve technique. Focuses on refining strokes and reinforcing water safety and emergency response skills.

    Parking

    From 5 p.m. Fridays through 7 p.m. Sundays, Parking Services does not enforce "No Permit" Violations on Visitor/Guest vehicles. Students, faculty and staff must always display a Texas State permit. Please follow the steps below to purchase a parking pass.

    • Download the AMP Park app, available on the App Store or on Google Play
    • Select “Moore St. Soccer Complex” as the location you would like to park at (it is the closest to the SRC)
    • Add your license plate and vehicle information
    • Add your billing information
    • Press “Purchase”
    • Your Pay-by-App Permit is now active, and you may park in your selected location!

    • Parents/Guardians must be available to take children to the restroom, therefore, they CANNOT utilize the SRC to workout, regardless of membership.
    • Children cannot be left unsupervised in any area of the SRC at any time.
    • Change diapers in a locker room; never on deck as doing so is against state law.
    • Our certified instructors have the ultimate discretion on which class level is best for a client and have the right to switch a child into a higher or lower level class since placing children in levels not appropriate for their ability is a safety issue. 
    • Risk Releases and Medical Authorization Forms are required by the University. All participants must have the forms signed by a parent or guardian by the first day of lessons.
    • Any blow up toys or floaties are not allowed.
    • Wash your child thoroughly (especially the rear end) with soap and water before swimming
    • Never swim or allow your child to swim with diarrhea. You can spread germs in the water and make others sick.
    • Swim diapers are required for all children who are not yet potty trained.
    • We cannot offer refunds once lessons have commenced in person and the participant does not show. If the participant arrives more than 15 minutes after the start of the lesson, class time will not be extended. No shows (with or without prior notice) will not be made up later.
    • Lessons may be cancelled due to low registrations. Advanced notifications and full refunds will be issued if this occurs. If we have to cancel a single class day due to unforeseeable circumstances, Texas State will do everything we can to make up the class at a later date, but make up sessions are not guaranteed.
    • Refunds or transfers to other classes are not permitted when the cancellation occurs less than 24 business hours before the scheduled start time.
