8 Dimensions of Wellness

Your individual well-being is essential to your success as a student. When you take care of your overall well-being, you are better able to thrive academically, socially, and personally throughout your time at Texas State.

The following dimensions of wellness are essential to your holistic health as a student. When you achieve a balance in each dimension, you may find that your overall well-being allows you to feel more positive, confident, and capable in school and in life. The 8 Dimensions of Wellness are adapted from WellCats and shaped into a student wellbeing framework.

Emotional Wellness

Building meaningful connections with others creates a strong support system, helping you manage daily challenges with resilience and a positive outlook.

Environmental Wellness

Taking care of your surroundings helps create a healthier world for yourself and others. You can support environmental wellness by recycling, reducing waste, and cleaning up after yourself in shared outdoor spaces. It also includes creating and maintaining a safe and comfortable place to live.

Spiritual Wellness

Recognizing that your life has purpose and exploring your place in the world can bring clarity and motivation, helping you navigate school, work, and life with a stronger sense of meaning.

Financial Wellness

Financial stress is one of the most common challenges people face. Learning how to create a budget and set financial goals can help reduce this stress and build confidence in managing your money.

Intellectual Wellness

Embracing an open mindset and giving yourself the space to learn and grow—whether in class, through conversations with peers, or by engaging in extracurricular activities—enhances your academic and personal development.

Occupational Wellness

Having a positive work environment is essential for overall wellbeing. Building good relationships with coworkers can make work more enjoyable and contribute to a greater sense of purpose and satisfaction.

Physical Wellness

Maintaining healthy habits like regular exercise and consistent sleep patterns supports your overall wellbeing. Physical wellness also means avoiding behaviors that could harm your health and keeping your body strong and energized.

Nutritional Wellness

Fueling your body with balanced meals and staying hydrated helps you stay focused in class, energized for your activities, and feeling your best throughout the day.
